The leadwood tree is a characteristic bushwillow species of the southern Afrotropics. It often shows a striking, peculiar and ornamental bole, with dark grey, almost black-green bark. Its leaves fall off early in the winter months. When fresh, they are purple to blue-green with a silvery underside.
